Electric netting has become increasingly popular for contract/prescription grazing projects. Its appeal lies in the fact that it provides not only the psychological barrier, but also some measure of physical barrier. We have found that if the fence is properly built, well grounded and powered by an adequately sized controller that a netting fence can be effective for livestock inclusion and predator exclusion. However, the netting does have a few drawbacks. You must take extreme care not to drag electrified netting through the brush, as you can break the wire and/or cause the joints to come apart. Most importantly, remember that when taking the fence down, don’t roll the fence up like a sleeping bag...it will be very difficult to unroll. Instead, gather the fence in sections, collecting all the posts in a “bundle”. Once you have collected the last post, shake the netting to straighten, then lie on the ground and roll the fence up.
